One ought’ not live for a single purpose. And one should avoid singular occupations. One who lives well will ideally be occupied in two or three works, two or three moods, and two or three minds. It splits one up, stretches them, sometimes it is exciting, sometimes painful, but it is always beautiful.
And ideally these twos and threes are kept in tension with one another, so that, when one develops all others are pulled likewise, and when roused a spiritual eruption is achieved.
The singular is always rather dull. Without conflict nor growth, one doesn't really seem to exist, and the passive singular floats in a social haze.
